The VAIO YB series of AMD Fusion-powered notebooks that Sony showcased at last month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas are here. The VAIO YB series is certainly not the first on the market with AMD’s Fusion Zacate chips, but Sony has still managed to ensure that it stands out from similar offerings from HP and Lenovo.

The YB series from Sony rises above competing products by the virtue of its markedly greater starting price. The range starts at $600 as opposed to $450 for HP’s Pavilion dm1z and $400 for Lenovo’s ThinkPad x120e. However, it must be noted that the cheapest ThinkPad x120e SKU only features a single-core Fusion E-240 processor.

The Y series features a dual-core E350 APU clocked at 1.6GHz, 4GB of RAM, 500GB of hard drive storage, an 11.6-inch display (1366 x 768 resolution), and six hours of battery life. You can get it for $50 less from Amazon as long as you can live with 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.
